PrimeTel is building its own submarine cable landing station in Cyprus!
Reliance Globalcom, which owns and manages the world’s largest private undersea cable system, announced that it will land its NGN cable, "Hawk", a new multi-terabit, next-generation DWDM submarine cable system at the PrimeTel landing station. The Reliance Globalcom NGN system involves the construction of four new systems across the Mediterranean, East Africa, Asia and the Pacific regions.
PrimeTel is building a new, independent, privately owned Submarine landing station in Yeroskipos, Cyprus as per the global specifications of Reliance Globalcom. It aims to gain access to new international cables and capacity, and has secured 5Gbps of capacity globally with an option for further upgrades in the future. The project is expected to be completed by 2009.
This initiative will have a significant impact on the Cyprus telecommunications sector and the Cyprus economy as well, given that it will help Cyprus to establish itself as a country for new emerging services facilitated by the increased international capacity, alternative routing and lower prices. This will also help Cyprus in improving its teledensity and broadband connectivity. This will consequently attract overseas investment while facilitating the growth of existing companies and private consumers.
